Summer of Fruit

I love the summer time!! I edited a picture of my mom's mother's day gift because we both love fruit and this was something everyone in my family got to share together. Even though I eat fruit year round, I think its best in the summer time. I like to eat my fruit cold no matter what season it is, I guess in the summer time cold fruit cools me off.

Soul Food!!

Soul Food is definitely a cultural meal that African-Americans eat. I'll start by giving a little history of this meal and why its still important today. Soul food started during slavery and has since then progressed. Slaves would make meals with the left overs their masters gave them, if any. Young girls would learn how to prepare meals and recipes were shared verbally. Soul food is now an important meal that my family and I share. Fried chicken is cooked at least 2 or 3 times a week! Sometimes I get tired of having fried chicken but as soon as I smell the aroma of fried chicken coming from the kitchen I have to have some. Mac and cheese, greens, yams and cornbread are the perfect sides for the meals' main course. When my family has a BBQ, celebration dinner or just a normal weekend meal this is usually what it consists of. No one leaves hungry and everyone leaves with an extra plate or two if their is some left.
